How the Awards Program is Conducted:

All Festival participants are eligible to submit slices of their portrait work. Two rounds of judging and selection are involved. Round one is conducted by the Selection Committee of the Advisory Board of the American Society of Portrait Artists (see page 2). The Selection Committee's choices are then presented to the full Advisory Board-all portrait artists of distinguished national reputation. The decision of the Board is final. The award-winning paintings will be exhibited in New York during the 2001 Portrait Arts Festival in the gallery of The Art Students League of New York. The awards and cash prizes will be presented during the Awards Dinner at the New York Athletic Club on Saturday, June 9, 2001

Rules and Procedures

1. You must be registered as a participant in the Portrait Arts Festival to participate in the Festival Competition.

2. All artists are eligible except employees of the American Society of Portrait Artists and the ASOPA Foundation.

3. Portraits only. All media except sculpture. Submitted paintings must be original works of art that have not been previously submitted to Festival or other competition.

4. Entry is to be by 35mm slides. Standard cardboard or plastic mounts are preferred. No glass mounts.

5. Artist's name, address must appear on the right-reading side of the mount. Explanation: Hold the slide so it appears correct to you, then put your name and address on that side.

6. Mail the slides in an envelope, protected-if desired-with a piece of stiff paper. Do not tape the slides to the protective paper. Slides will not be returned unless requested and a self-addressed, stamped envelope must accompany the slides.

7. Entry fee is $15 per slide, with a maximum of three slides. Clearly distinguish these slides from critique slides. (Critique slides must be sent separately from competition slides).

8. Address the envelope to The American Society of Portrait Artists Foundation, 2781 Zelda Road, Montgomery, AL 36106.

Entry deadline is April 15, 2001.
