Some
Basic Criteria in Forming Local ASOPA Affiliate Chapters
- Membership in the Chapter is open to all who desire to learn
more about the art of portraiture.
- The Advisory Board of ASOPA must approve all Chapters.
- All Chapter members are ASOPA patrons and support the
Mission and Value Statements of ASOPA.
- There must be a minimum of five members.
- Because various groups of artists may already exist that have
an interest in one or more of the following: landscape, plein
air, still life, portraiture and sculpture, our Advisory Board
will consider any artist group (existing or to-be-formed) to
become affiliated with ASOPA as a local chapter. If an existing
group has only a portion of its members interested in portraiture,
the Advisory Board will consider that portion of artists within
the larger group becoming an affiliated chapter.
- To avoid splinter groups, new ASOPA Chapters will be considered
only after determining if nearby ASOPA Chapters already exist.
- In order to maintain the high standards of ASOPA, all use
of the ASOPA name, Sargent Medal, and logo will require written
approval by ASOPA in advance of a chapter-sponsored event, competition,
etc.
- Chapters will be featured in the journal of ASOPA,
The Portrait Signature.
- Chapters are encouraged to write articles for The Portrait
Signature journal, have local competitions and meetings to
promote camaraderie.
- Chapters are encouraged to network with other ASOPA Chapters
across the world.
- Chapters may only affiliate with ASOPA as a national portrait
artist group. However, individual artist members may affiliate
with any group.
- The Advisory Board of ASOPA will designate several Advisory
Board members to serve a liaison to different Chapters across
the country. This will allow each Chapter to have representation
on the Advisory Board of ASOPA.
- ASOPA will recognize Chapters for their participation and
contributions in The Portrait Signature and at various seminars,
workshops and The Portrait Arts Festival.
