Our very first impression that we make to a client may come from our
portfolio. It is an important tool for selling ourselves as a professional
artist.
I purchased my album from the Exposures catalog. They have dozens
of styles so that you may choose the "look" that best suits
the image you wish to portray. I chose an oversized album, 11"
x 14", in a rich burgundy leather with a carved leather border.
I had a gold nameplate from the Things Remembered store made for the
center.
The most expensive part of the project is the enlargement of the photographs.
For me it was extra cost. I’ve been working with the same photo processor
for many years and they are excellent at adjusting the color of my photographs
to my satisfaction. I photograph my paintings myself and am usually
satisfied with the results. If you have trouble in this area, a professional
studio is a must for the very best representation of your paintings.
The crystal clear pages came with the album but I purchased extra sets
of pages in order to make a full book of 40 pages. On the page opposite
each photograph I inserted an attractively bordered sheet with a story
or explanation of the painting. Kinko’s has an assortment of computer
papers that is perfect for that purpose. In the back I have a page or
two of important letters, documents, etc. I purposely left out the business
information from the front pages, but that could be included if you
choose. The end result should be a portfolio that you should be proud
of for years to come.
